TRUMP’S TAXING DUPERY
December 21, 2022 -Durt Fibo
For those who were convinced by Donald Trump’s excuse that an eternal audit was preventing him from releasing his tax returns: Firstly, an audit does not at all bar anyone from disclosing their tax returns, and, secondly, in 1977 the IRS adopted an internal policy that should require mandatory audits of sitting presidents and vice presidents.
Now we learn that just one of Trump’s annual federal income tax returns was audited…or rather was begun to be audited when he was president. That was merely for 2016, and still wasn’t completed by the time he left office in January 2021.
Steven Mnuchin was responsible for this as the United States secretary of the treasury serving Donald Trump from 2017 to 2021. To cite the legal obligation directly from the IRS: “The IRS is organized to carry out the responsibilities of the secretary of the Treasury under section 7801 of the Internal Revenue Code. The secretary has full authority to administer and enforce the internal revenue laws and has the power to create an agency to enforce these laws.” -May 31, 2022:
