START EACH DAY WITH A LIE

Wyoming’s new Republican candidate for congress began her campaign with a blindingly obvious lie. Harriet Hageman, speaking to Fox News, elongated her bizarre attack on probity by claiming that Liz Cheney did not concede the primary race to her.

Not only had Cheney already conceded at a public and well-publicized gathering as soon as polling showed her hors concours, but she had also immediately phoned her congratulations to Hageman –or tried to– despite Hageman not picking up the phone. When asked about Hageman’s claims, Cheney answered Politico that she’d made three calls total, finally leaving Hageman a voice message before giving up, as she was due before the media and public for her concession speech. An exasperated Cheney actually delivered a recording of the voice message, which said: “Hi, Harriet, it is Liz Cheney calling. It is about 8.13 [pm] on Tuesday the 16th. I’m calling to concede the election and congratulate you on the win. Thanks.”

By the following night, Hageman was still insisting to Sean Hannity: “I haven’t had any other contact with Liz Cheney. She made the one effort and all she said was ‘Hello, Harriet.’ And then that was the end of it.” Attempting to fend off Politico’s information, Hageman further diminished her credibility by repeating the lie that Cheney did not concede, and had one of her flunkies provide them with a video (!) of a phone playing a message allegedly from Cheney. Politico complained that “The message as played on-screen contains only Cheney’s two-word greeting before sound cuts off for more than 10 more seconds.”

Previously, Hageman had made her legal reputation as an anti-public lands/pro-private property pitbull, most notoriously in 2001-2003 challenging the US Forest Service’s Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which had been instituted to conserve wildlands, watersheds and wildlife habitat within national forest lands by preventing development within areas that had not been touched by road building and logging. Hageman’s ruthlessness throughout the battle won her the title “Wicked Witch of the West”.

This Hag/Man creature was recorded as having for some time attended Casper College, according to a 2010 publication honoring her as a distinguished alumni for the school. She is cited specifically for having been a member of the livestock judging team, an experience she credited for allowing her to hone her analytical skills.
