He played Classical, Cool Jazz and Hard Bop, but in 1965, at the suggestion of a waitress, Ramsey Lewis tried a pop-Motown song called “The In Crowd” at the end of his set in Washington D.C.’s Bohemian Caverns. This is the live recording of that exact first time, with Red Holt on drums and Eldee Young on bass.
