As midnight bleats into January 1, 2023, Deutsche Post -the German Post Office- will completely cease all services involving telegrams. The semi-state-owned agency will actually declare them verboten. Although the news has been concealed by apathy, this immuring of a 19^th century amenity will also preclude people from other lands from sending telegrams to anybody in Germany. Depending on the frantic sender’s extra-territorial time zone, the Deutsche Post‘s death knell could mean they have less than 12 hours to telegraph a German.
