ANOTHER PLANNED WAR CRIME
August 1, 2022 -Durt Fibo
On July 29th, the Russian-run war-prisoner camp in Olenivka suffered an explosive attack, killing 53 and wounding from 75 to over 100 Ukrainian captives. Russia quickly and mindlessly (or sadistically) blamed the blast on a Ukrainian rocket strike against its own men. Russia specifically said the origin was an American-donated HIMARS GPS-guided M31, the new rocket artillery system that has been shattering and humiliating the Russian military machine. Ukraine denied involvement and added that the explosion was a Russian attempt to remove all traces of torture carried out on the prisoners.
Situated in the Russian-backed Donetsk Republic, Olenivka has been the site of an internment camp since 2014 (the Volnovakha Correctional Colony No. 120). Just before the July 29th incident, some 200 Ukrainian fighters from the Mariupol debacle were transferred to a separate facility in the colony. That night they were obliterated in their sleep.
No guards were reported injured at all, and not a single other building was damaged. The tin-roofed cinder block building was not destroyed or even cratered, and nearly all damage was confined to its interior. Beds were scarcely rearranged, but whole bodies were incinerated –yet intact, none of which corresponds to the effects of a rocket strike, but all of which is consistent with an attack directly on the interior of the barracks. Although Russia (and its Donetsk deputies) have thus far refused the International Red Cross access to the camp, by analyzing high resolution MAXAR satellite imagery of the Volnovakha building, a consensus has formed that Russia must have used thermobaric weapons to burn the POWs in their sleep, simply launching an attack from outside the building, through the widows, thus ‘blowing up’ the barracks within.
